Aptus Doorman app

- 2013 -

Aptus is a company within the ASSA Abloy Group handling passage, booking, and intercom systems for residential buildings. Aptus came to us when developing its new system for digital locks. With a string of bitter experiences of previous digital locks still ringing in its ears, Assa Abloy Aptus wanted us to solidify a meaningful, functional solution with heightened aesthetics for residents.

The mobile application is the residents’ everyday management system, where they can control accessibility remotely and see things like whether a door is locked or who has passed through a door passageway and assign codes and fobs; all far more adaptable than conventional lock and key alternatives.

Given that digital locks aren’t yet commonplace in Sweden, we’ve also identified the need for additional solutions to overcome the kinds of problems which might otherwise require the services of a locksmith. The result was designed to match the Aptus graphic profile in both iOS and Android platforms

approach

We used our customer-centred research method and began the project with a broad perspective before heading into some very deep interviews with residents examining security and safety issues at home, their relationship with the apartment’s outer door and how they relate to those coming through the door itself. With this insight, and through creative workshops, we developed proposals for services and functions to cater for the needs identified.

Analysis and customer evaluation

To ensure our interpretation of their needs worked in reality, we evaluated the concepts in the context of the building itself, onsite. In this way we got genuine feedback on which concepts worked, what was attractive and why it was relevant in the first instance. In situ to this, we evaluated how residents relate to functionality on a digital level but also sought to refine the way they deal directly with Assa Abloy itself. By means of our iterative customer and user-driven processes, the resulting concepts were distilled into an attractive system of services able to provide security and safety for people living and visiting the apartments.

Customer touch points

The solutions have take the form of an introductory package, a mobile application for everyday occupant management and a number of auxiliary services for special situations like power blowouts. The introduction package is designed to create a safe atmosphere for initial installation, not determined by the occupant themselves but their housing association or corporation.
